    About La Magdalena Yancuitlalpan

    La Magdalena Yancuitlalpan is a village in the municipality of Tochimilco in western Puebla, on the slopes of Popocatépetl. Its name joins its patron, Mary Magdalene, with the Nahuatl Yancuitlalpan, from yancuic, new thing, tlalli, land, and pan, on: "on the new land". Perched at about 2,200 m, it had 2,460 residents in 2020.

    The municipality of Tochimilco, about 233 km², is the state's 48th largest and reaches from the summit of Popocatépetl at about 5,500 m down to 1,800 m in its lowest parts. It borders Morelos and the State of Mexico, and its neighbours are San Nicolás de los Ranchos, Tianguismanalco, Atlixco, Atzitzihuacán, Atlautla and Tetela del Volcán.
