    About San Francisco Huilango

    San Francisco Huilango is a village in the municipality of Tochimilco in western Puebla, on the slopes of Popocatépetl. Its name joins its patron, Saint Francis of Assisi, with the Nahuatl Huilango, from huilanatiuh, to drag wood, and co, place: "where logs are dragged". Some 1,049 people lived here in 2020, at around 1,870 m.

    The municipality of Tochimilco stretches from the summit of Popocatépetl at about 5,500 m down to 1,800 m in its lowest parts, where Huilango lies. It covers about 233 km² and borders San Nicolás de los Ranchos, Tianguismanalco, Atlixco, Atzitzihuacán and, across the mountains, Atlautla in the State of Mexico and Tetela del Volcán in Morelos.
