Santa Ana Teloxtoc

Santa Ana Teloxtoc is a village in the municipality of Tehuacán in south-eastern Puebla, about 22 km south-west of the city. It stands at about 1,870 m and had 1,596 people in 2020. Its name joins its patron, Saint Anne, with the Nahuatl Teloxtoc, from tetl, stone, oztotl, cave, and co, in: "in the stone cave".

In the village's lands runs the Salitrillo stream, which has cut a canyon between pale walls and rock layers of the San Juan Raya formation, with pools and small falls when it carries water. These Cretaceous rocks hold dinosaur tracks: a study in Paleontología Mexicana describes theropod and sauropod footprints in the Salitrillo ravine, and in September 2025, after heavy rain, Teloxtoc residents reported new tracks that INAH confirmed as those of plant- and meat-eating dinosaurs about 120 million years old.

The municipality of Tehuacán is known as the cradle of maize, because very old traces of its cultivation were found in the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán region. It had 327,312 people in 2020, the second most populous municipality in the state after Puebla, and together with Santiago Miahuatlán forms the Tehuacán metropolitan area. For visitors to the city, Teloxtoc is a short trip into the rock and ravine country of the southern valley.
