Town 27 km east of Arteaga
A quiet mountain village east of Arteaga, near a canyon, with cabins and trails up some of the sierra's high peaks.
Los Lirios is a small farming village tucked into the mountains east of Arteaga, near the narrow Cañón de Los Lirios. It is one of several communities in the Sierra de Arteaga, along with El Tunal and San Antonio de las Alazanas, where people from Saltillo and Monterrey come to rent a cabin and get away from the city heat.
The draw here is the landscape: dense forest, cold clean air, apple orchards, and big mountains on every side. Hikers use Los Lirios as a base for climbs such as Cerro San Juan, a peak above 3,000 meters with wide views over the sierra, while the gentler Loma El Pozo makes an easier outing. The area is also good for mountain biking, camping, birdwatching, and photography.
There is not much to do in the village itself, and that is the point. Come for a weekend in a cabin, a long walk in the woods, and a night by the fire, and bring warm clothes even in summer.
