Lake 9 km south of Jilotepec
A reservoir south of Jilotepec, built to supply the town with water, where locals picnic, paddle kayaks and take boat rides.
The Presa Danxhó lies in the gently rolling countryside south of Jilotepec, on the way toward Chapa de Mota. It was built to bring water to Jilotepec, and over the years its shores have also become a favorite spot for a lazy weekend: a broad sheet of water ringed by fields and low wooded hills, with room to spread out a blanket and watch the clouds move over the sierra.
There is not much infrastructure, and that is part of the appeal. People come to picnic on the grass, paddle a kayak, take a boat out on the water when rentals are running, or simply walk along the edge at sunset when the light turns gold. Anglers try their luck from the banks, and in the rainy season the surrounding hills turn a deep green.
Danxhó works well as a stop on a loop between Jilotepec, Chapa de Mota and Villa del Carbón, a route of small towns, dams and forest. Pick up barbacoa, bread or fruit at the Jilotepec market before you head out, since services at the reservoir are limited.
