Azumbilla

Azumbilla is the most populous place in the municipality of Nicolás Bravo in south-eastern Puebla, although the municipal seat is the village of Nicolás Bravo. It had 4,538 inhabitants in 2020, around two thirds of the population of the whole municipality, which had 6,644 in 2020. It stands at about 2,020 m, on the land that climbs from the Tehuacán valley toward the heights dividing Puebla from Veracruz.

The municipality of Nicolás Bravo was created in 1895. It covers about 109 km² at an average altitude of 2,500 m, and borders Chapulco to the west, Tehuacán to the south, Vicente Guerrero to the east and the state of Veracruz to the north. The road from Orizaba to Tehuacán crosses it; it is the route people travel and links Azumbilla with both cities.

The settlement is divided into sections; the Primera Sección is the one in the photo. Tehuacán, the nearest large city, is about 20 km away in a straight line, and Orizaba in Veracruz about 38 km. For travellers on the road between the two, Azumbilla is one of the towns on the Puebla stretch.
