Tierranueva is a small, quiet town in the south of San Luis Potosí, about 65 km from the state capital and close to the Guanajuato line. People come for its flagstone-paved streets, its main plaza and the nearby La Muñeca reservoir. The calendar is full of religious fiestas, led by the celebration of patron saint San Nicolás de Tolentino in early September.
History
Little has been published about the early history of Tierranueva. The town marks the anniversary of its founding every April 19, and its patron saint is San Nicolás de Tolentino. The surrounding land, watered mainly by the Jofre river and a handful of seasonal streams and springs, has traditionally been used for ranching, forestry and farming, and that rural economy shaped the town's modest scale and its stone-paved streets.
