Hot springs 12 km east of Santa María del Río
A thermal spa and country hotel on a former hacienda, around warm, slightly sulfurous springs found in 1890.
The Balneario de Lourdes sits on the grounds of the former Hacienda La Labor del Río, in the countryside southeast of Santa María del Río. In 1890 people here found a hot spring with bluish-green water and a faint smell of sulfur, and the place was named after the French pilgrimage town of Lourdes, with its reputation for healing water.
The water comes out of the ground at about 35 °C and is rich in minerals such as calcium, magnesium and sulfates. For generations people have come to bathe in it for skin problems, arthritis and rheumatism. From 1937 the water was also bottled and sold across Mexico under the Lourdes name.
Today it is a quiet country spa with gardens, a family pool, a children's pool and a hydrotherapy jacuzzi, plus a hotel and a restaurant serving regional dishes. It makes an easy half-day trip from Santa María.

Getting there
Lourdes is about 15 kilometers from Santa María del Río, roughly 25 minutes by car via Highway 57 (the Querétaro–San Luis Potosí road) and a short side road to the old hacienda. It is also close to Tierra Nueva.
