    About Laguna de Acomulco

    Laguna de Acomulco is in the municipality of Zacatelco, in its fourth section, in the Tlaxcala Valley and the Zahuapan river basin. It is a small body of water, about 20,000 m² in area, kept up by springs beside it; the Spanish Wikipedia article also links it to a spring connected to the Zahuapan about 4 km away.

    Its recent history has had ups and downs. In August 1969 very heavy rains made it overflow and flood nearby farmland. It was then left abandoned for years. In the 2010s rehabilitation began, along with protection of the springs that feed it, and in 2017 ecological chinampas were installed to support natural water management and bring back fish breeding.

    Zacatelco lies on the Cacaxtla-Xochitécatl tourist corridor and the Puebla-Tlaxcala industrial corridor, so the lagoon makes a short stop that can be combined with other sights in the municipality.
