Hot springs 4 km east of Chignahuapan
Long-running hot-spring resort in a ravine east of town, with warm thermal pools, a spa and rooms for an overnight soak.
Chignahuapan's other claim to fame, after its Christmas ornaments and its giant Virgin, is warm water. A few kilometers east of the center, at the bottom of a wooded ravine in the area known as Tenextla, thermal springs feed a resort that has been receiving bathers for generations; the current operator says it has been running for about 90 years.
The complex has several pools, indoors and out, filled with spring water that the operator puts at around 37 to 40 °C, which feels especially good in a mountain town where mornings are cold for much of the year. There are general and VIP pool areas, small private family pools, a spa, a restaurant looking over the ravine, and a hotel with dozens of rooms if you want to stay the night.
It is a commercial resort rather than a wild spring, so expect changing rooms, lifeguards and crowds on weekends and holidays, especially around Christmas, when visitors come to Chignahuapan for the sphere fair. A weekday morning is the calmest time to go.

Getting there
