Tulancingo sits where the Hidalgo highlands drop into the Sierra Norte de Puebla, with more Pueblos Mágicos within two hours than almost anywhere. Acaxochitlán, with its lake and Nahua embroidery, is twenty minutes away; the Puebla coffee and apple towns of Huauchinango, Pahuatlán, Xicotepec, Chignahuapan and Zacatlán are all under an hour and a quarter. The other way are Pachuca's mining towns, Real del Monte, Mineral del Chico and Huasca de Ocampo. Cuetzalan and Teotihuacán are under two hours.
Best months for the area: Jan, Feb, Mar, Dec (when most of these towns are dry with comfortable afternoons)
