About Jardín del Maestro

Where there is now grass and play equipment, an auditorium went up in 1975 that also worked as a cinema, on a state-owned plot between Avenida Juárez and Calle Vicente Segura. The equipment of the Cine Reforma, which had run from 1944 to 1977 in the Plaza Independencia on the site of the old Bartolomé de Medina Theatre, was moved in. The auditorium was demolished in 1994 over structural weaknesses and the ground was laid out with lawns, play areas and an esplanade.

The children's play area was inaugurated in 2008, with a first stage costing nearly nine million pesos, and in 2010 the park was reopened as Parque Bicentenario for the Independence celebrations, which is why it is sometimes called that. There are educational games, swings, slides and a special floor that cushions falls. Above all it is a place for children and for families to spend time together.

The 2016 works added two things. One was the footbridge to the Parque de la Familia, opened on 22 August at a cost of about 12 million pesos. The other was the María Teresa Rodríguez Arts Hall, opened on 1 August 2016 and home of the Pachuca Philharmonic Orchestra; it honours the first woman to conduct Mexico's National Conservatory of Music. The first events ran from 26 to 28 August. The garden lies on Avenida Benito Juárez, with Calles Ignacio Mejía, Vicente Segura and Manuel Dublán on its other sides.
