    About Villas del Álamo

    Villas del Álamo is not an old village but a locality inside Pachuca's urban sprawl: it is merged with the state capital, within the municipality of Mineral de la Reforma and the Pachuca de Soto metropolitan zone. It stands at 2,416 metres, on low hills of the Neovolcanic Axis, in the Tizayuca Valley region, with a temperate semi-dry climate. INEGI counted 2,332 residents in 2010 and 2,501 in 2020, of whom 1,358 are women and 1,143 men.

    The municipality it belongs to covers 112.5 km² and ranges between 2,400 and 2,900 metres in altitude. Its seat is Pachuquilla, the most populous locality is La Providencia and its density is about 1,800 people per km². The municipality's own name recalls the region's mines and the historical period of the Reforma.

    For a traveller there is no monument or fair to look for here. What does exist is a useful landmark: about 500 metres from the locality's point is the Polideportivo Universitario Carlos Martínez Balmori, a sports facility of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, which appears in this page's photo.
