About La Reforma
Fraccionamiento La Reforma is one of the localities of Mineral de la Reforma, the municipality that wraps around Pachuca on its east and south, and it is joined to the Hidalgo capital: it belongs to the Pachuca metropolitan area. It stands at 2,350 metres above sea level on flat Tizayuca Valley ground, with a semi-dry temperate climate, and its water drains to the Tezontepec sub-basin.
It is a place where people live and work in the city rather than a destination. Its population went from 701 in 1990 to 1,401 in 1995, the jump typical of a housing development filling up, and has held steady since: 1,336 in 2000, 1,296 in 2010 and 1,355 in 2020 (726 women, 629 men), under 1% of the municipality.
The setting is the municipality's. Mineral de la Reforma was created on 13 April 1920, covers 112.5 km², has its seat at Pachuquilla and packs in more than 1,800 people per square kilometre. In 2015 it had the highest human development index in the state, 0.835, and almost eight in ten working people are in services. The name comes from the region's mines and from the Reforma period.
How to get to La Reforma
Drive from Pachuca: 10 min, 7 km
La Reforma sits right against Pachuca: about 5 km from the capital in a straight line (approx.), so it is a few minutes by car, taxi or city transport from downtown or from Pachuca's Central de Autobuses. Visitors coming from Mexico City reach Pachuca first, from the Terminal Norte, and continue from there to the east and south of the city, where Mineral de la Reforma begins.
As an urban housing development there is no long road or rough stretch to warn about; do use a map with the exact location, because the municipality has many neighbouring developments and colonias with similar names. Real del Monte, the nearest Pueblo Mágico, is about 11 km away in a straight line (approx.).
