About Parque de la Familia

The ground under this park once held a Petróleos Mexicanos station, and before that the vat house of the Chavarría hacienda. During Jorge Rojo Lugo's second term as governor, the Avenida Juárez plot became the Parque del Charro, designed by architect Armando Ruiz Pérez, with a charro monument by sculptor Humberto Peraza and verses by Delfín Sánchez Juárez. That is how it was known for decades.

Work began in August 2014 on a makeover that floated an underground car park and a Toy Museum, and the move of the charro monument to the lienzo charro in the south of the city. The first stage opened on 17 October 2015 at a cost of 14.5 million pesos, and the site was renamed Parque de la Familia. The second, about 12 million pesos, opened on 22 August 2016 and added a footbridge to the neighbouring Jardín del Maestro.

The park has interactive fountains lit by LED lamps, a pedestrian path, clover-shaped bike racks, play equipment, equipment adapted for visitors with disabilities, a pet area and a vertical maze. It was Pachuca's first park with automated irrigation, and the furniture is a blend of wood and recycled polyethylene. By 2018 some of the play equipment was showing wear from lack of upkeep, worth knowing if you come with small children. Its boundary streets are Avenida Benito Juárez, Ignacio Mejía and Cuauhtémoc.
