About San José de la Laguna
San José de la Laguna is a locality in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, in northern Tlaxcala, at 2,523 metres above sea level. In the 2020 census it had 392 residents (197 women and 195 men), up from 326 in 2010 and 297 in 2005; it is the second most populous of the municipality's nine localities. There were 91 inhabited dwellings, almost all with electricity (97.8%) and piped water (95.6%), and only 6.6% with internet.
The Exhacienda La Laguna lies 1.4 km to the north; the locality directory lists it as uninhabited in 2020. Its chapel of San José was photographed in 2018 for the Wiki Loves Monuments contest and appears on the list of Tlaxcala monuments; it is the only documented sight in the surroundings..
The landscape is one of high hills: within a few kilometres are Cerro La Gazca (2,685 m, 3.1 km southwest), Cerro Los Gallos (2,621 m, 4.2 km northeast) and Cerro La Patada (2,814 m, 6.5 km northwest). There is no registered lodging in the locality; the nearest options are about 18 to 21 km away. The municipal seat, Lázaro Cárdenas, is 2.7 km southwest in a straight line.

According to a locality directory, Tlaxco is about 28 km by car (approx. 26 minutes) and Huamantla about 57 km (approx. 40 minutes). There is no published bus or colectivo line to San José de la Laguna: the usual way is to drive, or take regional transport to Lázaro Cárdenas and continue on the local road; ask for the chapel of the Exhacienda La Laguna, 1.4 km to the north. The nearest city with a bus terminal is Tlaxcala, and Puebla (CAPU) is farther; there are no published times for those stretches.
