About San Damián Texóloc

San Damián Texóloc is the seat of the municipality of the same name, in the south of the state, at about 2,260 metres. It had 5,832 inhabitants in the 2020 census, against 1,124 in 1900. The municipality covers just over 10 km² and was created on 27 September 1995 when it split from Santa Isabel Tetlatlahuca.

Wikipedia describes it as one of the most important pre-Hispanic settlements in the state, the most representative of some 230 villages that existed between 800 and 350 BC; the culture of that period is named after it. Today the main activities are milk production and farming. The streets of the centre are lined with low houses painted in strong colours, with wrought-iron balconies and strings of bunting at festival time.

The town's church is the parish of San Damián, dedicated to the physician saints Cosmas and Damian, and it is the reference building of the centre.. The town is small and quick to walk.
