About Jesús Tepactepec
Jesús Tepactepec lies at about 2,200 m in the Puebla-Tlaxcala valley, almost on the Puebla state line, and belongs to the municipality of Natívitas, whose seat it practically touches. According to Wikipedia, early in the 20th century it was simply called Jesús, then Tepactepec, and around 1930 it received its current name. In 1990 INEGI stopped counting it as a separate locality because it was joined to Natívitas, and in 2005 it was recognised again. At the 2020 census it had 1,098 people; Natívitas, the seat, had 1,583.
The village's main building is the sanctuary of Padre Jesús de los Tres Caminos, in the centre, which houses the image it is named for. Its festival is held every March, with a procession to which, press reports said, artisans from nearby towns came to sell their goods; 2013 reports describe the village as known for baskets and wooden figures. That festival was marked by the accident of 15 March 2013: during the procession a defective rocket fell on a truck carrying fireworks and set them off; the figures varied by report, but they speak of 13 to 17 dead and more than 150 injured.
Besides the sanctuary, the municipality of Natívitas holds two major archaeological zones, Cacaxtla and Xochitécatl, which face each other on their hills and can be combined with a visit to Tepactepec.
