About Pueblo Nuevo

Pueblo Nuevo lives off its hot water. The village is known for its balnearios and water parks, and along the México-Laredo highway, between kilometres 152 and 155, several of them tap thermal springs from underground. One, Balneario Pueblo Nuevo, advertises 36 °C water, pools with slides, a children's splash area, a zip line that crosses the park from the slide hill, a camping area, a restaurant and cabins.

Another, Puerta del Ángel at kilometre 152, has pools ranging from toddler splash zones to deep water, changing rooms, showers, green areas and a large garden; its water comes out at about 38 °C. General admission was 60 pesos and it opens 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday to Wednesday (closed Thursdays for maintenance); the camping zone runs 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The village stands at 1,767 metres above sea level, on plain and low hills with a semi-dry temperate climate. It grew slowly: 264 inhabitants in 1921, 433 in 1950, 948 in 1990 and 1,560 in 2020 (756 men and 804 women), about 1.6% of the Ixmiquilpan municipality.

To pair with a visit, Ixmiquilpan town has the Augustinian church and convent of San Miguel Arcángel, with sixteenth-century murals, and the Puente de la Otra Banda, a viceregal bridge over the Tula River.
