Town 17 km northwest of Mazamitla
A small town in the same pine-covered sierra, with the church of San Miguel Arcángel and a mural inside its town hall.
La Manzanilla de la Paz is a small mountain town in the Sierra del Tigre, north-west of Mazamitla, that has kept the look of an old provincial village: rustic walls, cobbled streets and red tile roofs. Tradition says its name comes from the many tejocote trees, locally called manzanillas, and from its peaceful character; it was once known as San Miguel de las Flores.
The heart of town is the plaza, with a kiosk roofed in tile like the houses around it, and the church of San Miguel Arcángel with its broad stairway. The town hall, also under a gabled tile roof, has a mural inside, and at the edge of town is the chapel of the Virgen de la Laja, a Guadalupe image said to have appeared on a stone slab.
Outside town, the Sierra del Tigre tourist corridor links La Manzanilla with Mazamitla and Concepción de Buenos Aires through forest tracks good for biking, riding and 4x4 trips, and the Presa El Chiflón is a local spot for fishing and grilling.
