Valle de Juárez is a small farming town in the valley just east of Mazamitla, about 12 kilometers away, on the road toward Michoacán. It is a simple, friendly place that shows what the Sierra del Tigre is like away from the cabins and tourist shops.
The center is a leafy plaza with flower beds and a kiosk in a style somewhere between French and rustic, faced by the parish of San Pascual, a 19th-century church that is the town's main landmark. Around the plaza, the portales are a good place for a snack and a chat with locals.
Right next to town is the Presa Ingeniero Vicente Villaseñor, a reservoir where people come to fish, and the surrounding hills are part of the Sierra del Tigre tourist corridor, with tree-lined paths for walks and horseback rides at around 2,500 meters of altitude. It makes a relaxed half-day trip from Mazamitla.
