About San Felipe Tlalmimilolpan

San Felipe Tlalmimilolpan is a pueblo originario south of Toluca, at 2,726 metres and right next to Metepec. The name is Nahuatl (tlalli, earth; mimilulli, a cylinder or round thing; pan, on top) and is read as "on the rounded earth"; the patron is Saint Philip the Apostle. It grew slowly until 1960 (1,364 people in 1900, 2,435 in 1960) and fast afterwards: 9,512 in 2010 and 13,310 in 2020. A 2025 news piece puts it at about 14,000 residents, with an economy built on small retail trade.

The time to come is when there is a fiesta. In the Paseo de Los Locos, held in the Easter season, people walk the cobbled streets in bright skirts with big chiquihuite baskets, oxen teams, floats and pack animals, asking Saint Isidore the Farmer for a good maize planting; on 7 June 2026 hundreds of the faithful turned out, with music and dancing. The central plaza has hosted a Feria del Pulque y Pozole (April 2022, free entry, with pulque producers from Jiquipilco, Villa Victoria, Rayón, Otzolotepec, Toluca and Ocoyoacac) and, in August 2025, the first Fiesta de la Cosecha: three days of dances, brass bands, corn dishes, pozole, mole de olla, hand-made gorditas and a loom workshop. Cambaya looms were shown there, a cotton weave used for the local costume, tablecloths, napkins and rebozos.

The village has a chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and the municipal delegation is on the central plaza.
