About Playa Las Glorias

Playa Las Glorias is a beach in Puerto Vallarta's hotel zone, in the area known as Zona Hotelera Las Glorias between Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio and the sea, roughly three kilometers north of the Malecón. It runs for about 940 meters, from Playa Los Tules in the north to Playa Tranquila in the south; north of Los Tules comes Playa Flamingos, and to the south the neighborhoods of 5 de Diciembre and downtown. The Pitillal River, which drains the valley behind the city, reaches the bay at the northern end of the beach, and signs along the creek warn passers-by to watch out for crocodiles.

Unlike the downtown beaches, Las Glorias is backed almost entirely by hotels and condominium towers: Dreams Vallarta Bay, Plaza Pelícanos, Sunset Plaza, Canto del Sol and Las Palmas by the Sea all front it. As everywhere in Mexico, the sand itself is public, and anyone can walk onto it. It is a wide beach of golden sand where the water is often gentle enough for swimming, paddleboarding, boogie boarding or snorkeling, which makes it popular with families staying nearby; the bigger, choppier days come mostly in summer and autumn.

Restaurants, bars and shops line the boulevard a block inland, and beach chairs and umbrellas are for rent. Visitors' reviews are mixed on two counts: the vendors walking the sand can be persistent, and on some days the beach is not as clean as it could be. Sunsets over the bay, seen from the lifeguard towers on the sand, are the reason many people stay into the evening.
