About Pimientillo

Pimientillo is a small village in the north of the municipality of San Blas, Nayarit, on the low coastal plain where the Río Grande de Santiago makes its last wide bends before reaching the Pacific. The river runs just north of the village, with sandbars and small river beaches along its banks. It should not be confused with the larger Pimientillo in the municipality of Rosamorada, farther north in the state.

It belongs to the cluster of small rural settlements around Guadalupe Victoria, known locally as La Virocha, the biggest town in this part of the municipality, about two and a half kilometers to the east. Playa de Ramírez is about a kilometer and a half to the south-southwest, Isla del Conde and Laureles y Góngora (El Ciruelo) a little beyond it, and El Madrigaleño about two kilometers away. Pimientillo had 356 people in 2005, 378 in 2010 and 317 in 2020, living in 99 occupied homes; almost everyone was born in Nayarit. It has a kindergarten and two primary schools, and like several villages in northern San Blas it has struggled with its drinking-water supply, a problem a state legislator raised in 2025.

There is nothing set up for visitors. The nearest food, from ceviche stands to taquerías and a fonda, is in and around Guadalupe Victoria, two to three kilometers away, and the nearest simple lodgings about four kilometers away. The port of San Blas, with its beaches and the mangrove boat trips of La Tovara, is about 28 km to the south, and the island town of Mexcaltitán about 44 km to the northwest.
