About Playa de Ramírez
Playa de Ramírez, often written Playa Ramírez, is a hamlet in the north of the municipality of San Blas, Nayarit, and despite its name it is not on the sea. It lies on the flat coastal plain about a kilometer and a half south of the Río Grande de Santiago and several kilometers from the Pacific, at only about nine meters above sea level, in the farm country around Guadalupe Victoria (La Virocha), the main town of this part of the municipality, some three and a half kilometers to the east.
It is one of a string of small settlements that almost run into each other here: Isla del Conde is just 700 meters away, Laureles y Góngora (El Ciruelo) about 1.3 km away and Pimientillo, on the riverbank, about 1.6 km to the north. Playa de Ramírez is shrinking: the census counted 125 people in 2005, 142 in 2010 and 103 in 2020, and the number of occupied homes halved over that decade, from 70 to 35. It has a primary school, and in 2025 it was among the villages of northern San Blas where a state legislator reported failures in the drinking-water supply.
There is nothing set up for visitors. The nearest ceviche stands, taquerías and fondas are in Guadalupe Victoria, about three kilometers away, along with simple lodgings. For travelers, the hamlet is a point on the back roads through the farmland between San Blas, the mouth of the Santiago at Boca del Asadero and the island town of Mexcaltitán.
