About Balneario Ejidal El Bosque

El Bosque is the ejido-run balneario of Oaxtepec, in the municipality of Yautepec; the entrance is through the Lomas de Cocoyoc subdivision, on the boulevard of the same name. The ejido's company runs it, and according to its official site the river that flows through it begins at the Poza Azul, the spring where Moctezuma Ilhuicamina is said to have bathed. Besides pools and water slides it has a children's area, a suspension bridge, cabins, a camping zone, family grills and changing rooms, and parking inside the grounds.

The water is what sets it apart from the area's water parks: the official site speaks of clear, mineral-rich water, and Infobae describes it as sulphurous, though neither gives a temperature. There are also archaeological remains in the grounds; Wikipedia mentions pyramids and carved stones at El Bosque and on Cerro de los Huajes, some still unexplored by INAH.

Oaxtepec was a rest place for the Mexica nobility. Sources disagree on the year Moctezuma Ilhuicamina conquered it (1438 or 1496), and the balneario's own site says he had plants gathered from across the empire for what it calls the first botanical garden in the Americas. The Spanish later built the Hospital de la Santa Cruz on the hill, and its ruins lie next to the balneario. Do not mix it up with the former IMSS vacation centre Oaxtepec, which is now a different park.

The published rates have applied since 15 March 2026: 150 pesos for adults, 100 for children and 75 with an INAPAM card; groups of more than 30 pay 95. Camping is 180 pesos for adults and 135 for children, plus 60 for tent space, and a cabin for two is 600 pesos.

How to get to Balneario Ejidal El Bosque

Drive from Cuautla: 20 min, 14 km

By car from Mexico City take the México–Cuautla autopista (95D and 115D, about 100 km and roughly 1 h 30 min according to Wikipedia) and exit for Oaxtepec; the old federal highway from Mexico City to Cuautla also runs through the town, at km 78. The balneario is reached through the Lomas de Cocoyoc subdivision, Boulevard Lomas de Cocoyoc s/n. From Cuautla it is about 14 km and roughly 20 minutes; from Cuernavaca, about 44 km and 45 minutes.

By bus, the official site suggests the Terminal Sur (Taxqueña): Pullman de Morelos, Cristóbal Colón and Estrella Roja run to Oaxtepec about every 25 minutes, and from Oaxtepec you take a taxi to the balneario. The cheaper, slower way is Taxqueña to Xochimilco, then the Xochimilco–Tlayacapan–Cuautla bus, getting off in Oaxtepec. Tlayacapan, the nearest pueblo, is about 6 km away in a straight line.
