About Estadio Olímpico de Oaxtepec

Inside the IMSS Oaxtepec holiday centre, among pools, cabins and gardens, stands a football stadium for 9,000 people. Work began in 1978 and it opened in 1979, designed by the architect Alejandro Prieto; the IMSS owns it. The holiday centre it belongs to dates from 1964 and is one of the country's big social-security resorts, with well over a hundred hectares of grounds.

The stadium grew up with the institute's own team. Club de Fútbol Oaxtepec-IMSS was formed in 1979, won the Tercera División that same year and the Segunda in 1981-82, and so reached the Primera División. It made its debut on 3 September 1982 at the Estadio Azteca and lost 2-0 to América; in 1983-84, with Ricardo La Volpe as coach, it played its last season in Oaxtepec before being sold and moved to Puebla. The franchise ended up in Torreón in 1989 as Santos Laguna. A club of the same name returned in 2022, in the Tercera División.

Work to improve the stands for spectators began in late July 2017 and finished on 9 October that year. Since 2017 the ground has been the home of Sporting Canamy, which local press says confirmed its base here for the 2026-2027 season, along with passing tenants such as Cuautla in 2018. A tourism article describes it as an Olympic stadium with an athletics track. Because it lies inside the holiday centre, you see it with a day ticket to the park or a match ticket.
