San Andrés Mimiahuapan

Mimiahuapan is one of Molcaxac's four juntas auxiliares, alongside Santa Cruz Huitziltepec, San Luis Tehuizotla and San José de Gracia. It lies in Puebla's Mixteca at about 1,820 metres, and in 2020 had 764 residents. Its population has risen and fallen through the century: 689 in 1900, a peak of 1,119 in 1970, 890 in 1990 and 673 in 2005, before recovering slightly.

The patron saint is Saint Andrew, and the church that bears his name is the village's main building; Wikimedia Commons has photographs of it.

More is known about the municipality of Molcaxac. Its Nahuatl name is explained as where the sparrows have their nests. It answered to the town of Tepeji in viceregal times, asked to separate in 1766, has had a parish since 1755 and has been a free municipality since 1895. In 1916, after a clash with the troops of General Juan Andrew Almazán, the town was burned, and the parish doors were set alight with people sheltering in the towers. Farming, livestock and trade are its economic base. The Sierra de Tentzo is visible from Molcaxac and is part of the area's scenery.
