About Balneario Las Fuentes

Las Fuentes is an ejido-run balneario in Jiutepec, on Paseo de las Fuentes in the Pedregal de las Fuentes neighbourhood, a few blocks from the town centre on the road toward San Gaspar. The Visit Morelos listing calls it a balneario of spring-fed pools set among green areas, and that is the idea: not a water park with big rides, but flowing water, trees and tables for a family lunch.

The name refers to the springs that rise on the site, and those springs explain much of Jiutepec's history. According to the Atractivos Turisticos de Mexico entry, they supported the town since pre-Hispanic times, supplied the haciendas of San Gaspar and Nuestra Senora de los Dolores, and in Maximilian's day fish-farming ponds were built whose walls still stand. Several balneario guides say the water comes from Popocatepetl snowmelt and arrives very cold; that is guidebook lore rather than a measurement, so bring something dry to change into.

What the guides list is several pools, small slides, lawns, palapas and parking, with camping space in some listings. The big trees give good shade, which makes it an easy place to spend a whole day out of the direct sun.

One honest caveat: We found no official site and no 2025 or 2026 press about Las Fuentes. The directories disagree on opening hours (7:00 to 19:00 in one, 10:00 to 18:00 in another) and on the entrance fee (between 50 and 60 pesos for adults), and none is recently dated. Call or message them on Facebook before going, to check that it is open and what it charges.

How to get to Balneario Las Fuentes

Drive from Cuernavaca: 15 min, 11 km

The balneario is on Paseo de las Fuentes, Pedregal de las Fuentes neighbourhood, in Jiutepec, about 9 km and roughly 15 minutes from central Cuernavaca according to a destinations guide (Uber puts the average Cuernavaca to Jiutepec ride at 18 minutes). It is a few blocks from Jiutepec's centre, toward San Gaspar.

From Mexico City take the Mexico-Cuernavaca toll highway (95D) into Cuernavaca; the drive is around an hour and a half without traffic, per Milenio. By bus, services run from the Terminal Sur (Taxqueña) to Cuernavaca for roughly 140 to 200 pesos (Milenio, 2026). From Cuernavaca to Jiutepec there are colectivos; We found no direct line to the balneario, so the easiest way is to get off in Jiutepec's centre and take a short taxi to Paseo de las Fuentes, or to take a taxi or Uber straight from Cuernavaca.

From Tepoztlan, the nearest pueblo listed, it is about 14 km in a straight line (roughly 15 minutes by car without traffic); there is no direct service, so go down to Cuernavaca or Jiutepec and change.
