About Balneario El Texcal
Balneario El Texcal is the pool area inside the Parque Estatal El Texcal in Jiutepec, at the edge of Cuernavaca. The Bienes Comunales de Tejalpa, the community landholders, operate it. The address is the Cuernavaca–Cuautla federal highway, km 14.5, and according to Explora Morelos you enter through the Acolapa housing development, following the signs. The fuller descriptions mention a monumental pool, a semi-Olympic pool, a diving pit, a children's pool and slides, plus camping, interpretive trails and an events hall.
Its recent history is uneven. Explora Morelos says it was shut for almost ten years over a property dispute between the federal government and the ejidatarios of Tejalpa, who won the lawsuit and reopened it. A park profile on Bekaab, with no clear date, says this recreation area was under rehabilitation, while Escapadah presented it as open in 2022, 9:00 to 18:00, with entry at 50 pesos for adults and 30 for children, and credited it with thermal water at 28 to 32 °C containing sulphur and calcium; no other source repeats that temperature. Today the listings contradict each other on hours (7:00 to 19:00, 9:00 to 20:00, or weekends only) and on prices (50 to 60 pesos), and we found no website or confirmed official page. We cannot say whether it is open this week: call before you go; the number that appears in one directory is 777 338 6218.
The park around it covers 258.93 ha, down from the 407 ha protected by the original 1992 decree. It sits on volcanic rock that lets water filter down and recharge the Hueyapan lagoon, a Ramsar site since 2010, and keeps tropical deciduous forest with 419 species of vascular plants, two of them endemic to Morelos. Diario de Morelos reported on 5 October 2026 that more than 200 families occupy reserve land and that only about 100 ha remain uninvaded, mostly around the balneario.
