About El Naranjo

From 572 residents in 2005 to 903 in 2010 and 1,282 in 2020: across three INEGI censuses, the colony of El Naranjo more than doubled. It is the sixth most populous of the 29 localities in the municipality of Jiutepec, in the Cuernavaca metropolitan area, and in 2020 it had 364 occupied homes. Over 60% of homes (62%) already had internet, and average schooling was about 10 years.

It stands at 1,316 m, about 2.4 km southeast of the centre of Jiutepec, on the slopes of the range that divides the Cuernavaca valley from the Cuautla one. By Morelos standards the climate is mild: annual mean 20.7 °C, January nights around 11 °C, afternoons above 30 °C in April, and about 800 mm of rain a year, concentrated in summer. A few kilometres to the east rise the hills Las Iguanas (1,558 m), Las Palmas (1,676 m) and La Corona (1,681 m).

Right beside El Naranjo, under 1 km to the east, is Cliserio Alanís, better known as San Gaspar (2,706 residents), which has a golf club, and to the south lie Valle Verde and Rancho Paraíso. To the west Ampliación Las Fuentes (838) completes a string of colonies that already blend into the city.

There are no sights of its own; people pass through on the way to Tepoztlán, or live here for the closeness to Cuernavaca.
