Ameyalco

San Miguel Ameyalco is a community in the municipality of Ajalpan at the far south-eastern end of Puebla, in the mountainous part of the municipality toward the Veracruz line. The name comes from the Nahuatl ameyalli, spring, and co, at: "at the spring". It stands at about 1,370 m and had 1,249 people in 2020.

The municipality of Ajalpan, about 395 km², is the state's twentieth largest and rises from 1,100 to 2,900 m. Part of it lies in the Tehuacán valley and part in the Sierra de Zongolica, a branch of the Sierra Madre Oriental, where Ameyalco is. Three main rivers cross it, the Comulco, the Zinacastla and the Tehuacán or Salado, one of the rivers that form the Papaloapan. Lower down there is dry forest and cacti; up in the mountains, pine and oak. To the north-east the municipality borders the Veracruz municipalities of Tehuipango and Zongolica.

The village has its México 68 auditorium, a gathering place for the community. Ajalpan, the municipal seat, is known for its red clay roof tiles and for the Señor de Coculco fair that begins every 3 May.
