About Balneario "El Axocochetl"

El Axocochetl, which local press also spells El Axocoche, is an ejido balneario at kilometre 7 of the Cuautla–Jojutla federal highway, in Ciudad Ayala. The Sociedad Cooperativa La Axocochetl runs it, and its main draw is not the pools but the spring: the water comes out in plain sight and forms a clear stream that runs through the grounds. There is a main pool, a children's pool, a slide, a restaurant with a palapa, lawns, a camping area and an events space with live music (rock and grupera) on some weekends.

The complex includes a tourist pavilion built to look like an early twentieth-century village, with its bandstand and a hacienda smokestack, plus a Zapatista Museum. Ayala is the municipality that gave Emiliano Zapata's Plan de Ayala its name, and the balneario promotes itself as the cradle of the Revolution of the South. México Desconocido adds that, by local memory, Zapatista messengers passed these springs on the way to secret meetings; it is an oral tradition, and we did not see it documented.

Directo al Paladar (May 2026) notes that the site holds the Secretaría de Turismo's Distintivo S, which recognises sustainable and conservation practices. The official site sets simple rules: no glass bottles and no pets. It is open Monday to Sunday, 9:00 to 18:00, and entry is 80 pesos for adults and 40 for children aged 3 to 9 and INAPAM cardholders.
