    About Paracaidismo en Tequesquitengo

    Skydiving is the most spectacular thing to do at Lake Tequesquitengo, and it happens at the San José Vista Hermosa aerodrome, in the municipality of Puente de Ixtla, a few minutes from the shore. Skydive México runs a tandem-only centre there: you are strapped to a certified instructor, so no experience is needed. From the air you see the whole lake ringed by low dry forest hills.

    The centre sells four altitudes. At 13,000 ft you get about 30 seconds of free fall; at 15,000, 45; at 17,000, 60; and at 21,000 ft, with supplemental oxygen on the climb, 90 seconds. The prices on its website, with a discount for paying cash, run from 2,490 to 5,490 pesos, and Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Hand-held or external photo and video packages are bought separately at the drop zone.

    The booking time is your arrival time, not your jump time. Plan on 2 to 3 hours at the club and keep up to 4 free, since everything depends on weather and airspace; if rain or wind stop the jump, the centre reschedules at no charge within three months of your deposit. Companions can wait at the aerodrome cafe and terrace, but pets are not allowed. A second operator, Albatros Paracaidismo, works from the airport on the south side of the lake.

    How to get to Paracaidismo en Tequesquitengo

    Drive from Cuernavaca: 35 min, 34 km

    Skydive México is at the Tequesquitengo Aerodrome, Emiliano Zapata 19, San José Vista Hermosa, Puente de Ixtla, Morelos. From Mexico City, per the centre itself: take the México-Acapulco highway and, about 22 km past Cuernavaca, at the Alpuyeca toll plaza, keep to the far right following the signs for Balnearios, Zacatepec, Jojutla and Tequesquitengo. It is a four-lane state road with no median and large, barely marked speed bumps. At Xoxocotla go straight on toward the lake; a 4 km median begins there and runs to San José Vista Hermosa. About 300 m further, on the right, is a black billboard reading "Centro de Paracaidismo"; turn left opposite it onto a narrow street and you arrive after 100 m.

    By bus: from the Terminal Sur (Taxqueña) take a bus to Jojutla or Zacatepec (same highway; Pullman de Morelos runs Taxqueña to Jojutla) and ask to be let off at the Xoxocotla junction, past the pedestrian bridge and the petrol station. A taxi then takes you to the skydiving sign. Skydive México also runs a round-trip shuttle from Perisur on Saturdays and Sundays at 8:00 am for 490 pesos, booked in advance. Cuernavaca is about 31 km in a straight line (about 35 minutes by car) and Tlaltizapán, the nearest pueblo on our list, about 14 km (about 15 minutes).
