About Estadio Agustín Coruco Díaz

The Agustín "Coruco" Díaz is the football stadium of Zacatepec de Hidalgo, right in the middle of town next to the sugar mill. It is named for a local player, Agustín "Coruco" Díaz. Its origins go back to 1948; sources disagree on the official opening, which English Wikipedia gives as 30 November 1964 in its infobox and November 1954 in its text. It is nicknamed the "Selva Cañera" (sugar cane jungle) for the area's hot climate.

Today it is nearly a new stadium: it was rebuilt from the ground up in 2014, at about 500 million pesos according to Milenio, and the grass pitch measures 105 by 68 metres. Capacity depends on the source. Wikipedia lists 24,313; Milenio spoke of about 22,000 in 2014. The municipal government of Zacatepec owns it.

Club Zacatepec played here from 1964 to 2020. In 2020 the Morelos government lent the ground to Lobos Zacatepec. Escorpiones Zacatepec followed (2023-2024) and, since 2025, Atlante, which Wikipedia lists as the home tenant. Check the fixture list before you go, because the teams have changed often.

Milenio places the stadium about 10 metres from the church of Santiago Apóstol and two blocks from a river. Outside match days it is a good excuse to see the cane town itself.

How to get to Estadio Agustín Coruco Díaz

Drive from Cuernavaca: 35 min, 35 km

The stadium is in central Zacatepec de Hidalgo, on Calle Morelos and Avenida Escuadrón 201. From Cuernavaca it is about 34 km and roughly 35 to 40 minutes by car (OpenStreetMap routing): Autopista del Sol (México 95D) south, exit at Xochitepec, the Tejalpa-Jojutla state road (MOR 14), then MOR 4 into Zacatepec. On match days leave early; the centre is small and fills up.

A TV Azteca Morelos guide describes two public-transport routes from Cuernavaca, both stopping one block from the stadium: the federal route, 45 minutes to 1 h 20 min and about 40 to 60 pesos, from the centre, the Casino or Chipitlán; and the state route, slower (1 h 30 min to 2 h) and cheaper (20 to 35 pesos), from La Luna, Chedraui or Temixco. Fares are approximate.

From Mexico City, the usual plan is a bus to Cuernavaca from the Terminal Sur (Taxqueña) and onward from there. Tlaltizapán, the nearest pueblo on the list, is about 6 km away. We found no information on parking; tickets are usually sold at the box office and online, but verify with the club.
