About Balneario El Paraíso

El Paraíso is a balneario, a swimming-pool park, rather than a village. Wikivoyage describes it as a small, older, family-friendly waterpark close to the centre of Jojutla, at Camino Viejo al Vivero 20, in the Emiliano Zapata area, with listed hours of 9:00 to 18:00. The locality that carries the name has 55 residents (2020) and sits at about 878 m; until 2010 it was called Balneario El Paraíso (El Vivero), and the directory that records it puts it around 1.5 km from Jojutla's centre.

Jojutla is southern Morelos's go-to town for a day in the water. Wikivoyage counts at least half a dozen waterparks around town, with slides, wave pools and lazy rivers; Lake Tequesquitengo is a few kilometres away, and the Amacuzac River offers class 3 rafting. The climate is semi-dry and warm, so the heat bites from spring onward and the pools fill up on weekends and holidays.

We found no ticket prices or recent operating news for this specific balneario, so call before you go (Wikivoyage lists 734 342 7296) and do not take the hours for granted. If it is closed, Jojutla itself is close by: its San Miguel Arcángel parish church was rebuilt after the 19 September 2017 earthquake, which left the town the worst hit in Morelos.

How to get to Balneario El Paraíso

Drive from Cuernavaca: 45 min, 40 km

The balneario is at Camino Viejo al Vivero 20, on the outskirts of Jojutla, about 1.5 km from the town centre. Jojutla is roughly 45 km from Cuernavaca (Wikipedia), about an hour by car depending on traffic.

By bus, Pullman de Morelos runs frequent departures between Cuernavaca and Jojutla (every 20 minutes, from about 50 pesos, according to Wikivoyage). From Mexico City, first take a bus from Terminal Sur (Taxqueña) to Cuernavaca, about 75 minutes without traffic, and change there. In Jojutla the Pullman de Morelos terminal (Galeana) is on the west side of town, operating 5:30 to 21:20; from there continue by taxi, since distances are too long to walk and We found no documented combi route to the balneario.

By car, the area connects via the Mexico-Acapulco toll road and Avenida Morelos (state road 2), which crosses Jojutla; look for the road to El Higuerón and the old road to El Vivero. Tlaltizapán, the nearest pueblo on our list, is about 15 km by road (roughly 20 minutes); Cuautla is about 34 km away in a straight line (roughly 40 minutes).
