Waterfall 4 km northeast of Tlatlauquitepec
The tallest waterfall around Tlatlauquitepec, over 80 m high, which you can see from a lookout, from its base and from behind.
Puxtla is the tallest waterfall around Tlatlauquitepec, a ribbon of water dropping more than 80 meters off a cliff in the green, humid country north of town. Locals also call it La del Siete, after its position near kilometer 7 of the road to Mazatepec, and it lies within the community of Tepantzol.
The forest around it is thick and jungle-like, fed by the clouds that roll up from the Gulf. A trail leads down from the road in roughly 15 to 20 minutes, and there are three ways to see the falls: from a lookout at the top, from the pool at the bottom, and from a ledge behind the curtain of water.
Puxtla is also one of the area's adventure spots, and local operators run rappelling on its walls. It is at its fullest in the rainy season, from about June to October, when the trail is also at its muddiest.
What to see and do
Look at the full drop from the lookout at the top of the trail.
Walk down to the pool at the base and then behind the curtain of water.
Try rappelling on the cliff with a local operator.
Come in the rainy season for the biggest flow, with good shoes for the mud.
