Diez de Abril

The name is a date: on 10 April 1919 Emiliano Zapata was ambushed and killed at the Chinameca hacienda, and the day became one of national mourning. Chinameca is the neighbouring locality of Diez de Abril, in the south of the municipality of Ayala, and the old hacienda is now a museum to the memory of the Caudillo del Sur. Anyone coming for the history should know that the ambush site is in Chinameca, not in this colonia, which simply borrows the date.

INEGI lists it as Unidad Habitacional 10 de Abril, at about 1,285 m above sea level. Its population went from 501 in 1990 to 1,655 in 2000, dipped to 1,531 in 2010 and stood at 1,460 in 2020 (757 women and 703 men), which makes it the 14th largest of the municipality's 149 localities. It sits among other housing developments, such as Residencial Los Sauces, Huertas de Cuautla and Valle del Pedregal, and just over a kilometre from the Parque Industrial Cuautla.

Services are nearly complete: 99% of homes have piped water and electricity, 58% have internet, and average schooling is 10.7 years, high for a rural locality. To the southwest rises Cerro El Castillo (1,433 m), about 3 km away. The climate is warm and semi-arid, averaging 21.8 °C a year with about 1,127 mm of rain, mostly in summer.
