The homeland of the Totonac people in north-central Veracruz: hot, green hills of citrus, vanilla and cattle that run down to the Gulf. Its heart is the ancient city of El Tajín and the town of Papantla, the home of vanilla, where the Voladores still spin from their pole. Inland are the hill towns of the Sierra, among them Zozocolco; on the coast, Tecolutla and the beaches of the Costa Esmeralda.
