Iguala, where the Mexican flag was first flown, is forty minutes down the hill from Taxco, the silver town whose white houses and red roofs climb a mountainside. Beyond Taxco is Ixcateopan, said to hold Cuauhtémoc's remains. North over the state line are the hot springs of Tonatico and Ixtapan de la Sal, the Aztec temple carved into the rock at Malinalco, and the sugar towns of Morelos, all within about an hour. Tepoztlán and Tlayacapan make a longer day.
